Grapefruit Margaritas

September 3, 2012

This past weekend I was in the mood for a margarita, but with a twist. I’ve recently taken to drinking grapefruit juice in the mornings, so I googled grapefruit margaritas. The first recipe to pop up was from Ina Garten, so of course that’s the one I used.

I really liked these–they weren’t too sweet, but tart and refreshing. Because you blend ice right into the drink (this is not a frozen drink), you don’t need additional ice in your glass or in the pitcher.

1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice

1 cup Triple Sec

1 cup clear tequila (I used Patron)

½ cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 3-4 limes)

2 cups ice

lime wedges and salt for garnish, optional

Rub the edges of your glass with lime juice, then dip in salt if you like a salted glass. In a blender, blend the grapefruit juice, Triple Sec, lime juice and ice until smooth. Pour the mixture into a pitcher and then add the tequila. Give it a stir and pour into prepared glasses. Keep the pitcher in the refrigerator so it stays ice cold.

Find Ina’s recipe here.
