Caprese Sandwich

A caprese sandwich is my standard order at our local Italian deli. (This is the only way I like to eat fresh tomatoes.) After  making the mini baguettes (pictured above, recipe here) I was immediately craving this sandwich. Best lunch ever! Also, check out my recipe for a baked caprese bread salad–it is one of my most popular recipes.

Here’s how I made the sandwich:


crusty bakery rolls (or homemade baguette!)

tomatoes, sliced

fresh mozzarella, sliced

fresh basil, rough chop

coarse salt

olive oil

balsamic vinegar

Layer on ingredients–tomato, mozzarella, basil. Sprinkle with salt, drizzle some olive oil and use a few drops of balsamic vinegar.
