Hi, thanks for visiting Culinary Style! My name is Emily.
I started this blog because I found myself constantly sending recipe links and pictures of things that I cooked to my friends, so that they could make them too. This is a fun way to keep all of my recipes in one place.
I don’t share a lot of my personal life in my posts (maybe one day I will), but I am a stay-at-home mom (2 boys in elementary school) and my husband and I have been married for 12 years. We live in the Los Angeles area.
What kind of camera do you use?
I use a Canon EOS 7D. My lens is a Canon 28-135mm f/1.3-5.6. Beginning in January 2013, I got a new macro lens that I use for the majority of my photos. It’s a Canon 50mm. I also occasionally use my iPhone.
What photo editing program do you use?
I use Lightroom, but I don’t spend much time editing photos.
How do you make the collages?
I use SnagIt (for web images) or Picasa. For iPhone picture collages, I use the Diptic app.
Where do you get your recipes?
The majority of the recipes you will see here are not my original creations. I am careful to always link back to the original source, whether it’s from another blog, cooking show or cookbook/magazine.
What do you do with all the food–do you really eat everything? Where do you take your photos?
Yes, my family and I eat everything. If we don’t like it, I don’t post it. I take my photos in my kitchen or outside. I don’t typically set up photos with a fancy background or do much food styling. When you see my pictures, imagine a hungry family sitting at the table waiting for me to finish taking pictures of their dinner so they can eat it!
What are your favorite stores?
If I had to pick one store to wear head-to-toe for the rest of my life, I would choose JCrew in a second. I also like Madewell, Banana Republic, Loft, Anthropologie, Target and Gap. (Department stores stress me out.) When I’m shopping for house stuff I like Home Goods, Pottery Barn, West Elm, CB2 and Williams-Sonoma. For furniture, my first stops are always Crate & Barrel and Room & Board.
Why don’t you put your kids and family on the blog?
Currently I’m not interested in having my family up on the blog–this is a space mostly for recipes with other fun things mixed in. Maybe some day I will!
